Ongoing activities

In UC fiscal years 2001-2002 and 2002-2003, the Workgroup was funded by DANR for a restoration monitoring project headed by member Edith Allen. The latest report on this activity was made as part of the Workgroup’s annual report to DANR.

Workgroup members/GRCP staff have attended meetings of the staff committee of the California Biodiversity Council (CBC). These meetings have been used to make CBC members aware of the Workgroup and the interests of its members and to discern concerns and needs of CBC members that could be addressed by the Workgroup.

Informal meetings have been held with some state and federal agencies to discuss how their conservation-related activities could be better supported by science and scientists.

Involvement of Workgroup members in planning for the University of California Summer Symposia in Conservation Biology for 2000 and 2001. Many Workgroup members were involved in advertising these events, selecting graduate students from their campuses to receive Symposia scholarships, and providing presentations at the Symposia.

Involvement of Workgroup members in preparing a report on in situ genetic conservation for Monterey pine. Several Workgroup members reviewed drafts of the report and participated in an April 26–27, 2000 workshop to further the objectives of this project.
